What file formats does Brault support?

Last updated: July 15, 2026

Brault supports 50+ file formats across images, camera RAW photos, video, audio, and documents. How much processing a file gets depends on its type: images and RAW photos are fully listed below since Brault generates a preview and thumbnail for each one, video and audio are transcoded automatically regardless of the original codec, and PDFs get full processing while other document types get text extraction only.

Image formats

Brault generates a preview and thumbnail for these image formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, TIFF, and BMP. The file size limit is 10 GB per image.

Camera RAW formats

Brault decodes 13 camera RAW formats: NEF, CR2, CR3, ARW, DNG, ORF, RAF, RW2, SRW, PEF, IIQ, 3FR, and GPR. CR3, PEF, IIQ, 3FR, and GPR were added to widen camera support beyond the original eight formats. Sigma's X3F format is not yet supported. The file size limit is 10 GB per RAW file, same as standard images.

Video and audio formats

Brault accepts video and audio files and transcodes every one for preview, so playback works in the browser regardless of the source codec. Video files are limited to 40 GB each; audio files to 10 GB each.

Documents and design files

PDFs get the fullest processing of any document type in Brault: extracted, searchable text, a page thumbnail, and a compressed preview, up to 15 GB per file. Other document types are extracted for search but do not get a thumbnail. SVG files are sanitized for security and get a thumbnail, up to 10 MB per file.

What happens with a format outside this list

A file type outside this list still uploads and stores in Brault like any other file. It just skips the automatic preview and thumbnail step, which Brault treats as an expected outcome, not an error.
