Brault converts and compresses images, PDFs, video and audio: one file at a time from the file viewer in the web app, or up to 100 at a time with Brault Desktop for Mac. The original never changes. Convert and compress is included in Pro and Growth; on Free, the web app shows Download as… is part of Pro and the Mac app Comes with Pro.
Convert a file in the web app
- Open the file in the file viewer.
- Open the
Downloadmenu and chooseDownload as…. - Pick the
Format. Images convert to JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF or PDF. PDFs compress or export their pages as JPG or PNG. Video converts to MP4, MOV or a GIF clip, and video or audio to MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC. - Set the options: the size of an image, or the
Resolution,CompressionandCliprange of a video. - Click
Download. TheOutputline estimates the size and the time; you can keep working meanwhile.
Convert a batch on Mac
Brault Desktop for Mac 1.3 or later converts up to 100 files of one type in a single batch.
- Drop the files on the Brault panel or on the menu bar icon, or right-click files in a Brault folder in Finder and choose
Convert with Brault…. - Choose
CompressorConvert, then set the options once for the whole batch. - The results land in your Downloads folder as they finish; the results screen also offers
Add to BrandspaceandSend with Transfer.
Images are converted on the Mac itself and do not use your daily conversions when every image in the batch comes from a folder on your Mac, the output is JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF or PDF (AVIF on Macs that can write it), and none is over 80 megapixels or 200 MB; otherwise the whole batch goes to Brault. WebP output (the default the Convert sheet picks), files already in Brault, and PDF, video and audio files are converted by Brault and count one conversion per file.
How many conversions does each plan include?
| Plan | Conversions per day |
|---|---|
| Free | Not included |
| Pro | 100 |
| Growth | 500 |
| Enterprise | Unlimited |
The count is per brandspace and resets at 00:00 UTC. Each conversion counts, so a file converted to two formats counts twice, and canceled or failed conversions and those of visitors of your shared links (up to 20 per link per day) count too. Downloading an image from the viewer as JPG, PNG or WebP (or AVIF up to 1280 px) does not use a conversion; converting to TIFF, GIF or PDF, keeping metadata, AVIF at the original width or wider than 1280 px (up to 1920 px wide), or the original width of a very large image does.
Limits per file
- Files up to 10 GB.
- Video and audio up to 60 minutes per conversion (convert a clip of a longer file).
- PDFs up to 100 MB, and up to 300 pages per page export.
- GIF clips up to 15 seconds.
- Results stay ready to download for 30 days, 7 days for video, or 2 days for the zip of a multi-page PDF export.
What happens when you reach the daily limit?
The web app says You've reached today's conversion limit. More open at 00:00 UTC. and Brault Desktop for Mac You've used today's 100 conversions. More open at 00:00 UTC, in 6 h 12 min. A shared link at its limit says This link reached its daily conversion limit. More open at 00:00 UTC. A brandspace runs up to 3 conversions at once; past that, Brault says Too many conversions running at once. Wait for one to finish.
Nothing is lost when you hit a limit: your files and finished conversions stay where they are. Brault plans and limits compares the plans.
If none of this worked
Contact us from the support form with the file name, its size and roughly when you tried to convert it; that's enough for us to find the conversion in the logs. We usually reply within one business day.
