Bynder review 2026: AI agents, cost and who it fits

Bynder is an enterprise digital asset management platform founded in Amsterdam in 2013: a library for a brand's approved files with AI search, a set of AI agents that tag, adapt and check assets, and products for content production, brand guidelines, omnichannel delivery and analytics around it. Bynder reports 4,000+ customer brands, 1.7 million users and 160+ integrations, and sells one custom package per customer through a demo and a quote. This review covers what Bynder does well in 2026, what buyers report paying, where it stops, and which teams it fits.

The package costs are in Bynder pricing in 2026, the ranked field in best Bynder alternatives, and the head-to-head with the other quote-only leader in Canto vs Bynder. Product facts below come from bynder.com and Bynder's press releases, read on 2026-10-02; prices are Vendr buyer data of February 2026 and Bynder's own AWS Marketplace listing, because the pricing page shows none.

TL;DR

  • Bynder is a complete enterprise DAM with the deepest AI layer in its tier: AI search, about 30 AI agents and, since September 2026, an MCP server for AI assistants.
  • It is a Leader in the Forrester Wave for DAM systems (Q1 2026) and in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for DAM platforms.
  • The pricing page has no prices. Buyers report $8,950 to $71,310 a year, median $39,270; Bynder's one public package lists at $66,000 a year on AWS Marketplace.
  • G2 puts implementation at 4 months, and buyers report services at 15% to 30% of the first-year contract.
  • It fits global brands with many markets and a stack to feed; a creative team of 3 to 20 is a different fit.

What is Bynder and how does it work?

Bynder is a cloud DAM headquartered in Amsterdam, majority-owned by Thomas H. Lee Partners since a deal announced in December 2022 and led by CEO Bob Hickey, with more than 600 employees. The company grew by adding products around the library: it bought Webdam from Shutterstock in 2018, We Adapt (now Studio) in 2020, GatherContent (now Content Workflow) in 2022 and the AI search company EMRAYS in 2023. Customers named on its site include Spotify, Lacoste, Mazda, Molson Coors and Specsavers, and Bynder says 20% of the Fortune 500 use it.

The library is the center. Files are uploaded, tagged by AI and by metadata properties agreed during onboarding, searched in natural language or by image, and shared through collections, portals and a CDN that Bynder says serves 18 billion assets a month. Around it sit the production products (Asset Workflow for approvals, Content Workflow for editorial content, Studio for templated image and video), the brand layer (CX User Community, formerly Brand Guidelines) and the delivery layer (CX Omnichannel, formerly Digital Asset Transformations, which resizes and converts assets on request for websites and stores).

Where is Bynder strong and where does it fall short?

Bynder is strongest as an AI-heavy system of record for a brand with many markets and many connected systems, and least convincing as a quick, priced tool for a small creative team.

Where Bynder is strong

  • AI search with natural language, search by image, face recognition, text-in-image and speech-to-text, plus about 30 configurable AI agents
  • 160+ integrations, an open API and an MCP server, so the DAM feeds the CMS, PIM, commerce and AI tools around it
  • Analyst standing: Leader in the Forrester Wave Q1 2026 and in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for DAM platforms
  • Reviewers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on G2 (1,165 ratings) and on Capterra (228 reviews), with praise for the interface and onboarding

Where it falls short

  • No price on the pricing page and no free plan; the only public package lists at $66,000 a year
  • A rollout of about four months, with services reported at 15% to 30% of year one
  • The taxonomy and metadata setup is real admin work, and reviewers report AI search misses on specific queries
  • Products such as Studio, Content Workflow and CX Omnichannel are separate lines on the quote

What does Bynder include in 2026?

Bynder sells nine products under one platform. The table lists them with the names Bynder uses today, which matters because several were renamed in the last two years.

Digital Asset Management The library: upload, metadata, collections, versioning, sharing, rights management The base of every package
AI Search Experience Natural language search, search by image, face recognition, text-in-image and speech-to-text search, duplicate manager, automated tagging Built partly on the EMRAYS acquisition (2023)

For a creative team the DAM, AI search and Asset Workflow cover the daily work. The other six products are where an enterprise package grows, and they are the reason Bynder sells to marketing operations, e-commerce and brand teams at the same company.

How does Bynder use AI?

Bynder treats AI as a product line rather than a feature. AI Search Experience passed 1,000 customers in September 2025, two years after the EMRAYS acquisition, and Bynder reported more than 1,400 customers using its AI capabilities in the first half of 2026. The AI Agents launched in March 2025 with three agents (Enrichment, Transformation, Governance), added a Brand Compliance agent in December 2025, and the agents page now lists about 30, from an alt-text generator and multilingual metadata to logo detection, market-specific localization and counterfeit-listing monitoring.

Three details matter for a buyer. The agents run on Amazon Nova, OpenAI and Anthropic models, and Bynder states that customer data is not used to train any AI model. An AI Control Center enforces human approval before agent output is used. And on 2026-09-24 Bynder published Bynder MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that lets assistants such as Claude and Copilot search approved assets by their metadata and query brand guidelines, with the user's existing access controls still applied. The plan or package that includes MCP is not stated publicly.

How much does Bynder cost and what do reviewers say?

Bynder costs what the quote produces. Its pricing page says every customer has a custom-made package and a unique price point, set by users, storage, MarTech usage, the products included and the support level. Vendr's buyer data of February 2026 (78 purchases) reports contracts from $8,950 to $71,310 a year with a median of $39,270, and $20,000 to $40,000 a year for 10 to 25 users. The one public price is Bynder's own AWS Marketplace listing: a "Bynder DAM Commerce Package" with the AI-powered DAM, brand guidelines, 2 TB of storage, analytics and support at $66,000 for a 12-month contract. What a team of 3, 5, 15 or 25 pays per year is worked out in the Bynder pricing guide.

Reviewers like working in it. Bynder holds 4.5 out of 5 on G2 from 1,165 ratings (71% five-star, as fed into its AWS Marketplace listing on 2026-10-02) and 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra from 228 reviews. The recurring praise is the interface, search with face recognition, the Adobe and Salesforce integrations and a well-run onboarding. The recurring complaints are the price for smaller companies, AI search that misses on specific queries, and the admin time a taxonomy and a migration take. G2 puts the average time to implement at 4 months.

Who should choose Bynder?

Bynder fits organizations that run one brand across many markets and channels, connect the DAM to the rest of their stack, and buy software through demos and onboarding projects.

Global brands with many markets

Consumer brands and franchises with regional teams, agencies and thousands of users. Pernod Ricard runs more than 10,000 DAM users on Bynder, which is the scale the model is built for.

Teams that feed web and commerce

E-commerce and digital teams whose DAM has to deliver resized assets to a CMS, a PIM and online stores. CX Omnichannel and the integration catalogue are the reason to buy here.

Brands with strict compliance rules

Regulated categories such as alcohol and healthcare, where the Brand Compliance agent checks logos, guidelines and market rules (Bynder lists a Loi Evin agent) before an asset goes out.

Which Bynder alternatives are worth a look?

Three tools are a different fit for the three reasons buyers look around: the enterprise peer with free guests, the quote-only DAM with a smaller public package, and one platform for a creative team that wants a price this week. The full ranking is in best Bynder alternatives.

Pricing is public: $0 (Free, 2 GB), $4 a month (Lite, 200 GB), $12 a month (Pro, 2 TB, up to 3 users at $8 each) and $70 a month (Growth, 5 TB, 4 users included, $4 per extra user), billed annually ($5, $15 and $85 month to month), with no implementation fee. It does not replace Bynder's agents for brand compliance, its omnichannel delivery or its 160+ integrations. The category head-to-head is on Brault vs traditional DAM, and the small-team buying guide is affordable DAM for small teams.

Frequently asked questions

What is Bynder?

Bynder is an enterprise digital asset management (DAM) platform founded in Amsterdam in 2013. It stores a brand's approved files in one library with AI search (natural language, search by image, face recognition, text in images, speech to text), runs AI agents that tag, adapt and check assets, and sells production and delivery products around it: Asset Workflow, Content Workflow, Studio, CX User Community, CX Omnichannel and Analytics. Bynder reports 4,000+ customer brands and 1.7 million users, and sells one custom package per customer by quote.

Who owns Bynder, and is it a real company?

Bynder is an established software company headquartered at Overtoom 16 in Amsterdam, with offices in Boston, London, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Melbourne and other cities and more than 600 employees. Thomas H. Lee Partners (THL) has been its majority investor since a deal announced in December 2022, which bought out Insight Partners; at that point Bynder reported $100 million in annual recurring revenue. Bob Hickey has been CEO since March 2022.

Does Bynder use AI?

Yes. Bynder's AI Search Experience covers natural language search, search by image, face recognition, text-in-image search, speech-to-text search, duplicate management and automated tagging, and passed 1,000 customers in September 2025. Its AI Agents, announced in March 2025, now list about 30 agents for enrichment, brand compliance, transformation and governance, running on Amazon Nova, OpenAI and Anthropic models with human approval before assets are used. In September 2026 Bynder added Bynder MCP, which lets assistants such as Claude and Copilot search approved assets under the user's existing permissions.

How long does it take to implement Bynder?

Plan for about a quarter. G2 puts Bynder's average time to implement at 4 months, and a reviewer quoted on Bynder's own pricing page describes a structured onboarding of about 3 months. Every package includes an onboarding program, and buyers report implementation, migration and training services at 15% to 30% of the first-year contract (Vendr, February 2026).

Is Bynder worth it for a small creative team?

Usually not. Bynder is priced and staffed for organizations with several markets and a stack to integrate: the lowest reported contract is $8,950 a year, the reported band for 10 to 25 users is $20,000 to $40,000, and its only public package lists at $66,000 a year. A creative team of 3 to 20 gets the daily DAM layer (AI search, review, branded delivery, transfers) from Brault at $12 a month for Pro (2 TB, up to 3 users) or $70 a month for Growth (5 TB, 4 users included), billed annually, with no implementation fee.
