What can visitors do with each access level?

Last updated: July 15, 2026

Every Brault shared link, whether it points to a folder, a workspace, or a single file, carries one of four access levels: Only view, View + download, Review, or Can upload. Each level includes everything the levels before it allow, so Review can also download, and Can upload can also review. The level you choose controls exactly what a visitor can do with the link, no account required.

Only view

Visitors can browse everything in the shared folder or file, but there's no download button or download menu. Nothing to click to save a copy.

View + download

Everything Only view allows, plus downloading. Visitors can save the original file or a smaller preview size, one file or several at once.

Review

Everything View + download allows, plus comments. Visitors can leave timestamped feedback directly on a file. Raising a link to Review turns on anonymous comments for that link automatically, and the file drawer opens straight to the Feedback tab for visitors instead of Info.

Can upload

Everything Review allows, plus adding files. Visitors can upload new files, and on the web, whole folders, into the shared location. They can't edit or delete anything that's already there, only add to it. The first time someone uploads through an upload-level link, Brault asks for their name once so the upload is attributed to them.

Where each level applies

A folder or workspace link can go all the way to Can upload. A single file's shared link tops out at Review, since there's no folder to upload into.

How uploads are enforced

An upload-level link is checked on Brault's servers every time a visitor sends a file, matching the access level set on the link. Changing what the browser shows doesn't change what the server allows.

Setting the level

See How do I share a folder with a client? for where to set the access level and copy the link.
